Babusar Top reopens after six-month closure

ISLAMABAD: The renowned tourist destination Babusar Top has been reopened to traffic after a closure of six-month.

The Babusar Top was closed to all vehicular traffic on October 29, 2024, after snowfall across Gilgit-Baltistan (GB).

Babusar Top is typically closed from November to June due to extreme temperatures, and traffic is regularly diverted to KKH during these months.

Located at an altitude of nearly 13,700 feet above sea level, the road leading to the popular tourist destination is once again accessible.

The National Highway Authority has successfully reopened the road, providing a much-needed shortcut for travelers heading to Gilgit-Baltistan.

With the reopening, tourists can now save up to five hours of travel time compared to the traditional route via the Karakoram Highway.

This reopening is expected to spark a significant influx of tourists into the Kaghan Valley and other northern regions, offering visitors the chance to experience the breathtaking scenery, snow-covered mountains, and cool weather that this route has to offer.

According to NHA Inspector Latif Anwar, the road has already been cleared and reopened while heavy machinery is currently deployed to remove glaciers along the remaining route.

In November last year, seven massive glaciers—each over 40 feet high and 300 feet long—completely blocked the Naran-Kaghan Road, cutting off access to one of Pakistan’s most scenic tourist spots, the Naran Valley.
